Well, im a little disappointed today. After driving my MGT for less than one full tank, my fun came to a hault when i heard some suspicious noises. I shut the truck down immediately, and brought it in for inspection. Heres what i found!
Pic one, you can see i shredded EVERY tooth off this gear.

This was all done under what i consider, VERY easy driving coniditions. Right now im hoping that this truck had some bad gears in it from the factory. Im really hoping the next set holds up better. Up until this point, i was really happy with this truck. I hope my LHS has these parts tomorrow. :eek:

WHOA! Thats crazy!!!! That has to be bad gears! I dont think they're supposed to chip that easily... :d

wow.
my truck was not shifting to second gear, so I pulled apart the tranny and fixed it all up nice now, im sorry to see that bro.
call associated and see if they will send you some new gears, im shure if you are nice and ask nicely they might do it , i cant find any parts for my mgt at any local hobby around yet, good luck.
Ya, it does pretty much suck. Especially since i have not driven it hard yet. I still have my HCR savage to drive, so im not entirely bummed out, just annoyed. Hopefully my LHS will have the parts tomorrow. I'll call AE too, and see if they'll send me a set.

Mine wasn't quite that bad... it had 6 teeth still attached. hahaha
Well, hopefully this is the first, and last of this sort of problem. I guess as far as NEW RTR problems go, this isnt as bad as some of the other trucks. As long as the new gears hold up better, i'll still be happy. However, i did read on AE's website at least one complaint on their site about these same gears, where the guy went thru 3 sets! Thats really bad. Well, i guess only time will tell. One other thing! I read on the AE site, that some people sent in their trans. Has anybody here gotten any replacement gears WITHOUT sending in their trans. That just seems retarded to me. I know i wont be sending in my entire trans just to have them put gears in it.

I'm betting the people sent in their transmissions because they lacked the skill or inclination to disassemble/re-assemble it themselves.
I'll be calling AE in the morning... my bet is they'll just send me a new gear since that's what they did when I lost one of those notorious drive pins.

I'm sure they will send the new gears made of the some new material. I had the same problem but I just dropped off the whole truck at associated's wharehouse in Costa Mesa, Ca since I live pretty close and the truck was still under warranty. They replaced the gears in one day with new ones made of some new material (I don't know what) I've since upgrade to the Ofna Picco .26 and hope these gears hold up. I'll repost and let all know the verdict.

I'll get my MGT (it's a Thunder Tiger MTA-4 in Germany) 'til wednesday. If anyone
get's his replacement gear could he discribe any differences or make a pic of it so new owners like me an check if they still have the old gear in their tranny.

One more question: is the MGT only available as a RTR ins the States? I'll get mine without radio equipement and it's like $110 less expensive (499 Euros here in Germany, 1 Euro = 1,22 US Dollar).

I just got back from my LHS, i picked up the replacement gears, and have already installed them. The gears come in a bag, which actually have 3 gears in it. One of the new gears (the one i ripped ALL the teeth off) is a white gear now. The others look the same. Although i only broke one gear, and knocked a tooth off another, i still replaced all 3 with the updated gears. Hopefully this is the last of this problem. My truck is already back together.

Talked to AE this morning and they're sending me the updated gears.
I also ordered the HPI aluminum gear so I can see how that will fit.

Mine is sitting broken too. I got parts on order from Tower I also called Associated and they wont send anything unless I send in the broken pins and trans gears. I'm not going to hassle it since I'm disabled and it's so much trouble to go thru the post office. I guess it wont kill me to eat the parts but I am dissappointed to have so much trouble on twelve tanks. It reminds Me a little of My 21 Savage when it was new.

it's funny that they didn't admit in the beginning that they had a problem with the material. I've just read the complaint site at th AE site.
They won't tell the serial number from which on everything is okay - either there are so many cars that have the problem or there are so few cars that might have the problem and they don't want everybody call them for new parts.
Somehow just the replacement parts seem to have the white gear - even the gears with the right material seem to be black in the series.
I wonder which colour my Thunder Tiger gear has.
Does anybody know the hompage url of Thunder Tiger? www.thunder-tiger-com.tw doesn't seem to work...

They arent sending you any replacements? Im not accusing you of anything, but how was your attitude on the phone with them? I was real nice about it, and just asked if they were still handing out those gears, he replied "we sure are", and took my mailing info.

I was very nice to them. The first person that I talked to Don was his name seemed to be annoyed that I called at all but I was very polite to both him and the manager Mr. Curtis. I'm 45 years old and seem to be beyond jumping down strangers throats just to get My way. But at first they told Me they had never heard of any of My problems then later said they moniter all the major forums. They told Me since I had a bent axle that I would have to send all My broken parts back. I even asked if I could e mail pictures and a copy of My receipt but they still said no so I wished them a Happy New Year and that was that. By the way I didn't ask Don to talk to the manager it was after I had thought about it awhile that I called back and ask to talk to him. But I thanked both of them for their time. It appears that maybe they dont want it to be easy for their customers after all I doubt I'll be sending My stuff back at all and if enough people dont want their trucks down for two weeks that's going to save them a lot of money. I dont know if you have talked to them personally and I hope you really dont ever need to but I doubt if I would recommend them to friends and I used to. But I dont think I have been bad mouthing them either. I also have a RC 10 GT and have had a couple of other RC 10's in the past so I think I have been a good customer.

Thats' surprising that for one customer they would send the replacement gears without asking to send in the old ones and for another they wouldn't...

Some how one of the axle's got bent when the pin broke and that's why they want everything back.
Sorry to hear that plum. They were really good to me today. I agree with you though, i would never send the whole trans in to them. Not worth it. You would pay as much to ship them the trans, as the new gears would cost anyway. So there would be no point. When i spoke with AE today, my truck was already fixed. I didnt call them for free parts, i called them to see how well they stand by their product. I bought the part at Tower last night too, just in case my LHS didnt have them today.
