:bling:

4wd, oil filled shocks, lrp is making a custom esc, compatible with the T wheels, etc.

This thing is going to kick (butt)!!! And it is w/o a doubt on my "to get list", the Duratrax had my attention, but I will stick with Team Associated!!!

I knew AE would step up to the plate..

Can I get a w00t w00t?!?!?!

I'd rather have that than the mini T. Put a set of TRC monster tires on it and you'll have one mean beast.

lol I think it might blow over like the Mini-Giant did.

well if it's supposed to be comparable to the mini-t and comes from the factory in a better stock form (i.e. - oil filled shocks, etc) i doubt it'll blow over.

i'm all over it. after all, 4wd is EXACTLY what the mamba 2080 needs. i can't wait for the RC18T factory team truck. haha.

(i'm still keeping the t's too though)

I don't think this will be the end to the mini-t, the 4wd will be easier to control, but 2wd is faster, and more fun to bash with because it does powerslides and stuff. The assocaited will prompt losi to produce another, better truck, and the 1/18th scene will end up like the 1/10th scene. Maybe losi will take their truck seriously and come out with a G+ edition, and fix some of the T's flaws.

1. 2wd being faster than 4wd has no difference in why the mini T is better, the speeds will be completely unnoticable.

2. A 4wd drift is more fun to control than attempting to drift a mini T.

3. Losi may make a buggy, but not because AE made their car.

4. You can't take a mini car and take it seriously, that's silly!

5. Losi may make graphite parts, but I doubt a graphite version, but then maybe, I have no idea.

I bet this car is going to come out in april, they unveiled it too early.

Losi Stealth- i dont know for sure that the Mini-t will be faster because of the 2wd. if you look at the race results from big races (1/10th scale), the 4wd is normially faster than the 2wd. but, if you think of it, the rc18t is kinda "optional" 4wd. remove the bones in the front tires, and remove the shaft/ belt (whatever it is). then you can easially have a 2wd. dont know how well it would handle, but its worth a try.... just my .02.

I don't know, I just can't get excited about it.

I didn't think to check the race results for the big guys, but i enjoy driving my xxx more than my xx4. There has to be some trade off between 2wd and 4wd. I think the extra rotating mass in the xx4 causes it to be slower, but then again, maybe my driving just stinks. You are probally right about the whole taking 1/18th seriously, but i still like my 2wd cars. I've never seen a 4wd do a good doughnut or burnout. There are reasons the Corvette, Viper, and Cobra are all rwd. Cut down on rotating mass and other weight , and it should go faster, right?

Well the problem is that our little R/C's have a power to weight ratio that is leagues above real vehicles. Especially when run on dirt, it's physically impossible for our little tires to provide enough traction to prevent wheelspin. Thus, 4WD is always going to be faster in offroad R/C's, and in fact, the same goes for onroad vehicles (due to the extreme light weight & limited tire size).

Have a look at 1:1 scale offroad races with different classes for 2WD & 4WD -- 4WD is always tremendously faster (think stadium trucks, Paris-Dakar, or any rally events).

ok, so why has 2wd been so much more popular on the race scene? If 4wd was so much better, why isn't it a primary force in racing, Losi has been the only one to take it serously for a few years. What is the advantage to 2wd?

speed is actually dependent upon your choice of motor. in the end, the car/truck will only go as fast as the motor allows it to. 2WD will get to that top speed faster because there's less initial parasitic drag from double the drivetrain parts, but once everything gets spinning, they're both going to top out at the same speed. 4WD always seems faster in races, but it's got nothing to do with overall top speed. it's got everything to do with handling at speed. a 4WD car/truck can take a turn faster come out with a much higher exit speed, which allows it to get to top speed faster. if you had a 2WD and 4WD with identical setups (including weight) on a dragstrip long enough to get them to top speed, you'd have identical trap speeds.

2WD is simpler and easier to maintain - especially offroad. I think that's a big part of it.

^^ What he said. It's such a simpler setup. There's also a history factor -- a lot of the early off-road R/C's were based on baja buggies, which were all rear-engine, RWD vehicles.

To hotbegel's point, though, that's not entirely correct. A 4WD vehicle with tremendous power will always get a jump off the line on a 2WD with the same amount of power. Traction is the limiting factor there. Once you get past the speed where tirespin is a problem, though, 4WD starts to have a disadvantage, especially when you're going straight. A 4WD setup will always be heavier and suffer more drivetrain power loss.

No one is saying its "better", just faster in most cases. Put a 2WD car up against a 4WD version with the same amount of power and see who wins off the line? 4WD will own, especially in loose conditions. And 2wd s/t race scene is so much more popular because no one makes a 4WD S/T besides HPI and Academy.

If people wanted 4WD s/t's then trust me AE, Losi, etc would be making them. But until there's a large demand for them (which there isn't) then only a few companies will make them.
