hi, as you can see from my post count im completely new in this forum... and tell you what, im just as new to a mini lst... over at one18th.com , people told each other to boil their stock black nylon gears to make the last longer
anyone here did that?

well thats what i was doing, havent even ran the truck yet, all ive been doing was taking it apart and ive gotten to the gearboxes... ive boiled them, greased them, and when i put them back i discovered that the diffs arent rolling quite right with the diff pinion, its as if its bulged on one side... part of it rolls smoothly over the pinion, part of it grinds with the pinion...also if you put it into the diff housing and hold the gear by the bearing closest to the ring gear , and roll it against the pinion you can feel that is wobbling in and out of the gearbox...

You can not boil them at a very hi temperature, how hot did you boil them? And, I wouldn't of messed with the diffs considering you can just call LOSI (1-888-899-LOSI) and ask for the update witch send you revised gears for FREE. So now that you broke the gears, call them, ask for the update kit. I did! Do you have anymore questions?

Welcome to the forum!

yeah, like, uhh... what is the international dialing code for the US? and will losi send parts worldwide...

you in the US? I'm pretty sure they will send world wide!

okay i changed the title so its more suitable... the gears are not that far out, i think they would last until i find a way of getting some replacement gears to go into the truck, either if losi sends them to me or i get a third party one
the assembly of the shocks from the factory is appaling... front left is half filled, and both the rear shocks have got air in them... i dont have any shock liquid , i wanna use vegetable oil...

Vegge oil isn't thick enough! But nice creativity.LOL

When are you going to call LOSI?

carmatic

like... during their opening hours... i dunno what exactly i have to dial to get to losi tho, is there a way i can get them to send stuff to me over the internet?otherwise i'll plonk down for aluminum locked gears... getting quite sick of the tiny screws and all the packed grease inside it... if i lock all the diffs my gearbox might snap open or something heheh

my truck isnt for racing, its for bashing and lots and lots of jumping (friends live out by the woods, they have lots of unused wooden boards etc etc etc)

besides if i use a thick vegetable oil it would probably go up to ... hmm... dunno, almost 10wt?

Are you knew to RC or something?

I gave you the #, now call it, if you realy need you could probly email a LOSI worker and have them set it up that way for you to get the diffs. And if you do lock the diff, I have never ever heard of anybody breaking there gear boxes. I recomend locking the diff using silly putty! It may sound wierd but it realy works. I'm doing it soon!

10wt is is bad for for bashin, you need at least 35wt. But it is your truck.

Oh, and it would start to smell all food like.

ah ok... i think i'll order some 3racing shocks while i wait for my new diffs to come, since theres no hope of me running the truck anytime soon anyway...

i was just thinking of putting lots of vaseline in some vegetable oil and it becomes really thick, but i dont have enough vaseline... although what ive made is thicker than pure vegetable oil!
oh which reminds me... gotta order some proper shock oil too...

::edit:: ive been using tamiya anti wear grease to fill the diffs, they are nice and sticky , not a complete lock but abit like tight ball diffs... hopefully if i do this it wont wear out like ball diffs!

should i get the dynamite aluminum arms, or the monotuning extended arms... monotuning is only good for racing or something?

and maybe one day i'll keep a set of shocks filled with nothing so i can try running around with 'jelly suspension'

You actually ordered the diffs?

Once you get the real shock wt. and you have vasilene in your shock, that would be a pain to get out.

The dynamite arms are for bashing, the monotuning ar extended to give you a wider wheel base whitch makes your MLST more stable because your car is wider.

And once agian, are you new to R/C?

yup! before this i was just taking apart and reassembling simpler toys, no problem taking apart my mlst but i think i might not be able to put it back!

::edit:: its saturday, i thought the losi lines are only open monday to friday?all i can get to is the voice mailbox

and its gonna use up all my credit on my phone like this!

yay my truck is back in one piece give or take a few bits like vegetable vaseline shock oil and deformed gears... man the shocks are SOFT! i think i can take it into a specific place like a racetrack or something, its gonna go fast but its also gonna bottom out

im not gonna bother with cleaning these shocks, by the time i get new grease i would be using new shocks as well... like the threaded ones so i can tweak my truck for different terrains easier

let me get this straight. you used vasoline as shock oil?

carmatic
3.26.06, 6:20 am
vaseline and vegetable oil.... the more vaseline, the thicker.... also added abit of water, and microwaved it until all the vaseline dissolved resulting in the whole liquid being clear, and just waited for it to cool and it becomes this thick liquid

im ordering 3racing shocks and 35wt shock oil right now, the veggie oil 'might' eat through the seals on the shocks and i want to get rid of the shocks before that happens
im also looking at some silicone diff oils , i have to choose between 1000 wt and 30000 wt, which is the best?

First off, I have no clue why you used vaseline and vegetable oil to use as shock fluid. You have now idea how bad your car is going to run at the track if there are any jumps, and you have the wrong idea about threaded shocks unless you have read tons about them, you can fine tune them for different terrain like *snap*, that fast, you need to know what you are going to be doing on this terrain and how you will be doing it. The lower the the spinner thing on the thread part of the shock, the softer the car will be and it will also make the car have less ground clearance, the exact opposite if the spinner is higher. I have them, I'm experienced. The vegetable oil will not eat through the plastic, so don't be worried.

And just a tip for anything in the later days, don't substitute an RC product with a non RC product like duct tape or food stuff, wait for the real Mccoy to arrive. Because if you do substitute them it will just result in you breaking more and more parts.

Use the 30000wt, it would be much better for off road, but use the 10000wt for on road, it depends on what you would be doing most.

Hope all my yak-yak helps!

yeah i didnt do anything to the rear shocks, i kept them because i thought they were filled evenly enough

the front end sagged way down with the veggie vaseline oil , so i put a pair of the stock spacers (the second thickest ones) and it pushed the front right back up

i would be thinking that if the springs are pushed down , it will be good for jumps because you dont knock on the bottom of the suspension easily, for on road you put the springs higher so you bring down the truck and replace the springs with stiffer ones so that you dont roll around as much... not sure about rough terrain tho, i was thinking the shocks have to move up and down fast so use a thinner oil or something

rc basher

Good

You atleast did that, was just about to tell you to put a spacer in!

Nope, it is the opposite, if they were like that off road you would bounce around to much.

Ok, Mark, get a hub, some body posts, a new antenna, and some 40wt shock oil!

The slipper, you wont notice much of it is tighter or less tight.

hey, nothing with my vaseline now!
