I have been thinking of doing a conversion on my second MGT. Gonna need a fairly big sized brushless motor to keep the same performance or improve upon it. also need figure something for the motor mount.

im gonna do it but wondering if this BL system will do? will this match the performance of a nitro MGT?
http://www.hobbypartz.com/ezbrposycoc11.html
Hmmm...this is definitely an old thread.
medina619, there isn't much information regarding the brushless system on the website you linked. There is no mention of the kv rating of the motor, max rpm, ESC current handling capacity, etc. If you go on rc-monster.com, you'll find plenty of good information on brushless conversions. Without more information on that system you linked, no one can say for certain how it'll compare to a nitro MGT.
Do a search for brushless MGT conversions on this site. There is one by 10K Man(sp?) that was very very impressive. cyberdog also has a well made brushless conversion (http://www.ultimaterc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84572&page=12). TheDude might be coming out with something, stay tuned...

Winter, the esc is a 80amp cont. with 2-4s lipo handling , the motor is a 2350kv 5 mm shaft.
I would not recamend that for some thign as big as the mgt. would be underpowered, slow and overheat way to easy.
I would suggest a MMM or similar esc that takes 6s + and a 9xl motor(1900kv).

thank you, that was what i was thinking.
i want to build a basher. i have an RC8 and a T4 that i don't mind sinking my money into but this truck is gonna be a budget build, well at least that's what I'm telling my wife. ha ha
so that being said i want to keep cost as low as possible. i ran across some guys running ezrun BL system in their revo and have had little to no problems.
i plan on picking up this one. http://www.hobbypartz.com/ezbrposycoc3.html
any suggestion would be appreciated :D
ESC: EZRUN-150A-SD
MOTOR: EZRUN-4465SL (KV=2000)

Savage flux motor and speed control should work nice and made by Mamba

i would get the flux or the MMM but with one of the ezrun BL system id save lie 100 bucks. they seem to be pretty reliable. I'm just looking for one that has enough power.
I did a conversion not too long ago. My tip though, Don't go cheap! With a truck this size, you need the biggest and best components.
I ended up going through a 120amp Turnigy ESC and a MMM v2. My MMMv3 held up perfectly though but both my KB-45L-12 and KB-45XL-12 failed. Go with Neu motors and batteries that can supply at least 125amps continuous, more like 150...

Good luck!
Oh, and the pics died on my thread, but there are a bunch here.

Im in the process of this now.
The only thing i want to know is how do i set this thing up so that my BL only responds to forward throttle and my Brakes only come on with reverse throttle. I want to use the Stock brakes and servo and no the BL motor to stop the truck.

How do you guys set up your steering, brakes, reverse shifter, and throttle?
How do you guys set up your steering, brakes, reverse shifter, and throttle?
I've not actually completed an electric conversion, but here are some thoughts...
Steering is a no brainer. Keep the steering servo connected to channel one on the receiver.
When it comes to using the mechanical brake and a ESC simultaneously, you can simply use a Y-splitter, then set up the ESC to have no reverse and no brake. Alternatively, if you have a programmable mixing radio system, then use one of the channels to control the brake servo and slave another channel to the brake servo channel to control the ESC. Once the programmable mix is setup, the ESC channel can be set up with 0% mixing in the reverse direction and 100% in the forward direction so the motor doesn't run in reverse. There are quite a few ways to go about the programming depending on your radio system. Have fun with the project.

Ya im waiting on TD to finish his BL mount, then im balls to the wall on it. I even took my FOC kit out so that i could have reverse again. I havent used my MGT in a couple years because i was so fed up with nitro. BL is going to be so much fun.

Would a Mamba Monster ESC and motor be enough? with 4s lipo?

OK, I bought the fwd only kit, I istall it and then I realise that my car wont go backwards because I forgot that the tranny is one way!!! No reverse with the brushless conversion? NO NO NO NO!!
:D I have a solution for you e-monsters!! :D
All you have to do is to make these two that stay on the secondary axle NOT being able to go either way. you will be locked on the second gear but this is fine for the setups that you guys have on your brushless system.
http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/tsarouxaz/IMG_0143.jpg
so what you do is to remove the small M4 set screw that holds the shifting disk on the axle, buy a 12mm M4 set screw and screw it through the gear disk to the shift disk to the axle.
http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/tsarouxaz/IMG_0150.jpg
http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/tsarouxaz/IMG_0143-1.jpg
the set screw will not let the disk spin in any direction so you will be able to go backwards and fwd. the first gear ( the large one not pictured here) will spin freele but you can remove it and just let the hub there for the second gear.
http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/tsarouxaz/IMG_0148-1.jpg
After doing the trick...
ok the trick with the large grub screw works fine and
I WILL have fw and rev with the fwd only kit, all you
have to do is remove the gear from the hexagon
because it messes things up and you are done.
Just remove it and you are done
http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/tsarouxaz/IMG_0214Small.jpg
just remove the c ring and remove the gear,
Use back everything else (the hexagon that
holds the gear, but you do not need to install
the c ring again.
Then just screw in the 4mm
grub screw like this, so it can hold both discs in place. depending on the grun screw length, either it will pop out like on the picture or it will remain in the area where the 3 pins are situated and it will hit there every time the inner disk spins. it is your choice.
http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/tsarouxaz/IMG_0216Small.jpg
http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/tsarouxaz/IMG_0213Small.jpg
http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/tsarouxaz/IMG_0217Small.jpg
http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/tsarouxaz/IMG_0223Small.jpg
And you will end up like this, only with the second gear , which is more than enough!! in the picture I forgot to install the hexagonal gear holder and its one way bearing(useless now but it must stay there for the main geat to have something to hold on)
Now you will have FWD AND REV WITH THE FWD ONLY KIT!!!

I use a xerun 80A with xerun 2250 all new motor and esc and a tekno motor mount.
I have found that reversing and braking performs well and I have used more than two batteries.
The only problem now is that I have to find the FOK for the mgt 8.0 that I own because I use a smaller pin as a final gear holder and it will eventualy snap...
http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy64/tsarouxaz/IMG_0230Small.jpg
The conclusion:
By the way with 3 cell battery 5000mah and the awesome hobbywing set, I have very good speed and acceleration, exceptional handling with the tall 8.0 engine missing (not missed at all!!) and I have been bashing all afternoon at least 15 minutes or more with each battery!! (3 cell). I thought that 3 cell would not be enough but it is and I'm sceptical into going to 14+ volts or not...
I believe that the hobbywing 1/8 set (http://www.hobbywing.com/english/ArticleShow.asp?ArticleID=459) (Combo-M1A) works more than fine for me being a demanding user from my machines, but for speed freaks will be a bit "slow" because it "only" accepts up to 4 cell battery (80A). Just kidding, yes but I know speed freaks out there that don't hesitate to pull 22 V or more on these monsters and get more than 70mph but that is unnecessary for the MGT , just because it is a pure monster. Anyway if that thing hits anything living or not with more than 40mph you are in big trouble...!! :( .
OH I forgot, heat on the motor?? what heat? I see no heat coming and after a hard bashing on mud with a lot of starts and stops and prolonged full throttles and with 14t pinion, I touch the motor and it is just as warm as my cars hood in the morning start!! I don't believe it!!  and that means one thing. Able for more power!!
I thing AE or Thunder Tiger should consider
releashing an e-mgt soon because brushless is gaining
more and more fans every day (including myself)
as it offers more speed and general benefits than
Nitro for sure!!:D :D :D
What engine mount did you use? Thats all im waiting for to buy a motor and esc and batteries

This is a tekno rc motor mount www.teknorc.com find the one suitable for your motor diameter and you are done. I sugest you get the 16t or 18t long shank pinion, if you buy a motor at 2200 or less kv.
Here is the link for the motor mount that was used in the pic.

Does that mount cam adjust ?
Also what happend to TD BL mount. Its not on his website anymore. I even PM'd him about it and never heard back.
My apologies for not getting back to you. Very busy here between work and my TD stuff. Installing a heater in my shop this weekend. Yep,, been working in 20-30 deg temps out there,, Brrr!
I have made a prototype and sent it to allen. Results are that it needs to be closer to the spur. Finding room to get it closer and still maintain the swivel feature for gear mesh setting has been a challenge. I made another proto with the new design, but made a setup mistake and it needs to be redone.
The main issue with the BS MGT mount is finding time to manufacture them my self in my shop.
I can not send these out to my other machine shop with a high qty order due to low demand and risk.
Fact is, if I have a part that is in high demand I can invest the money to have a high qty made to keep prices low enough for you guys. I still have stock of two of these parts and have yet to recoup my investment from them. These two parts were once in high demand and in fact, when the original forum was in place,,, it was the topic with the highest posts in the entire forum.
(spoiler,,, the Upper A Arm mounts and the Drag link). FYI,, Neither parts have ever had to be replaced due to failure.
So, to avoid another loss, I will need to schedule shop time after hours and make all of these myself, in my shop. Understanding manufacturing processes I can not feasibly do these now and then in the evenings. It is crucial that I set up the lathe and mill dedicated to making these in batches of 10. One batch first to satisfy immediate needs. Another if more come along.
The other scheduling problem is that this will take away time for R&D on my other TD products in development,,,, progressive bypass shocks, shock tower shock supports,, etc.
So, I do apologize that I have not made progress like I would like to.... and I apologize for not keeping you all updated on progress.
Bear with me,,, I hope to have a few mounts available soon.
