I just bought a Kyosho MFR and im quite surprised. I own a revo 3.3, MGT 4.6, Baja SS, Tamiya TNX, etc....
I have driven many trucks in the last few years and was squite surprised how nice this thing drives out of the box. Most trucks need a few things to run balanced. This seems to do so right outa the box! The most notable thing that stands out is that truck is simply balanced to perfection. Its just got the right right weight bias all around. This means its very stable under power and off power as well as completely nuetral when jumping. The diamter of shocks help make the truck ride with minimal hop or very small bumps. The motor is very easy to tune. It was very rich from the factory on the low end settings. I didnt expect that , but after tuning the truck really hauls.! I think it would benefit from thicker shock oil, a Buku tuned pipe and maybe a 3 shoe metal clutch. This truck was really a surprise! I really didnt expect much. I bought it on a reccomendation from a freind. I cant wait to see the upgrades coming out over the next few weeks.
i also picked one of these up. Its my first nitro monster truck . the weather for just nice enough for me to break it in .i loved the ez start hope it last. It scooted right around the back yard. Cant wait for summer to take to the track . Hope more people get these little trucks and use this site
I cant wait to see the upgrades coming out over the next few weeks.
im pleased to see more info about the MFR because ive always been a true Kyosho monster truck man myself (Big Brute, Nitro Thrasher, Nitro Crusher (USA-1), and now my Mad Force RCX). i say that because as much as id love to see the market chasing the MFR, i sadly feel the MFR is going to be about as popular as the Giga Crusher was.
hopefully(!!!) though we see a market for the MFR as it is a more comparable truck to the Traxxas crowd. dang it, now im looking for the cheapest new MFR...
i got mine at ultimatehobbie.som for 309 shipped i think i had free shipping

If you upgrade the MFR wheels to Pro-Line, Upgrade the shocks to metal bodies this truck could out run anything. The stock tires balloon to easy on wheel lift. It also could use 40wt shock oil.Im gonna do this and report back here the results.
Im gonna throw a Buku pipe on it this week and maybe take some videos. Im psyched...!
I cant wait to see the power it gains.
Note that In stock form this truck has very good acceleration and a good top end speed. Its two speed tranny is slightly better than the revos.(shifts quicker) The truck also Jumps better than a Revo as well. The revo motor has slightly more power but i think the MFR may weigh less. The MFR brakes are insane! I actually needed to dial out some brake as my MFR was flipping over if i hit the brakes too hard. Im truly addicted to this truck! I cant wait to upgrade this thing.....
hey park flyer glad to hear ur liken your truck. i also think it could use stiffer oil . I wish it was warm up here want to get to the track so bad. Was wondering what you thought about the body? Did u cut any extra colling holes? i love the looks but the couple times i crashed cracked it up pretty good. I shoe gooped it and renforeced it back up for now . was thinking maybe add a wing to help take some of the impact. cant wait to see a vid of yours with some mods

So what oil are you using in the diffs? What about the shocks? Gonna be hard to add a Wing?

I have a MFR on the way. I run a ST-RR here in Texas already, but wanted a MT. Just a few questions that i had for the already owners.

turns out there is no one way bearing . it was slipping because i was trying to start the truck after it was sitting in a near freezing garage. Briught truck indoors and let it thaw for an hour. it now starts no problem. i may slap on a buku pipe this weekend. will post results.

where do i get upgrades for the mfr
there arent too many upgrades ive found ( havent purchased any waitn for summer) they have been kyosho upgrades ive seen cvd's , bigbore shocks, and seems like was anothe couple small things. As far as a wing goes i would fabricate up sumthing to mount a wing from an 1/8th scale truggy or possible revo.

My MFR electric starter motor is down. The starter motor has burnt out! I'm getting one replaced under warrantee. In addition the one way bearing is losing its catch.
When motor is fixed im going to run with the upgraded purple springs! They are much stiffer than the stock. Im also going with 45 weigh shock oil.
Im thinking of getting the kyosho upgraded pipe, however i think a Novarossi pipe might be a better choice!
I also found out today that you can use the STRR big bore aluminum shocks and pistons as an upgrade for the MFR! expensive!
Im gonna max out this MFR to be the most upgraded one out there! Then will make a film and post here on it running all out!
the road finally got dry enough to run a tank . as my first monster truck i am loving this thing top speed is right up there with my brushless staidium truck . Was blastn off some snow piles was jumping sweet . Im so ready for winter to be over i want to hit the track so bad but that will be a few more months.
Haya got myself a Kyosho Mfr, seems cool still running the engine in. Guys at my hobby store said to idle 2 tanks, then let it cool, then putt around for the rest of the 2 liters giving little bursts of the throttle. I saw some videos on you tube on how to brake in a nitro engine. ( they said can start giving more a more gas the more tanks you go through.) I am on about tank 10 and am starting to hold throttle down for about 4 seconds to get it to change into second. not to fast yet maybe 55-60km max. so hoping once iv run through the rest of the fuel and take it back to the hobby shop for them to do final adjustment ( tuning & setting the gears) It will be flying. The Hobby shop say they should be getting some hopups soon. How would you rate a better exhaust pipe is there a big difference. Thanks

yeah strapped my garmin gps on yesterday and was only getting 49km rather slow, fixed the gear change today so is shifting quicker. pull off is still a bit slow no were near wheelies or huge wheel spins on concrete. can you put different gears in tthis truck ? to improve the top end.
as far as i can find are only the stock gears.there are about as many upgrades as mfr owners ( not many).i love the looks and handling of this truck so far but i went to the track for first time with it .Got the truck all ready to go for its first track test. Then i burnt up my starter motor :( I also lost the cam for 2nd gear. am kinda debating on just gettn a pull start

Flip today my MFR went out of range at a fairly low distance 50meter or so & just kept going luckly not at top speed but went straight into a bark bench & broke the dif housing :( really bumbed as had been taking good care & driving safe then this has to happen batteries seemed fine in receiver, although i have run 5 Liters of fuel through them on the same new batterie pack. any way have super glued the small peace that has cracked of. will put some pratlys putty to reinforce. As the 1 & only place that brings in Kyosho dosnt have spares:(. Otherwise have just started getting the bottom end working well now. runs great & very stable. Not to fast though. how much percent improvement do you rekon the hop up exahust will give ?
