g'day m8...looks like were the only ones lol..im a 1/10 offroad fan(atic), unfortunately elec went quiet for a time but its back BIGTIME. No more pit time spent on motors/batteries, more power/torque than needed at most tracks etc. Its about time manufacturers made brushless available to the general public at reasonable prices....anyway i am soon to post pics of my df-02 brushless/LiPo nitroKilla!!
Littlehampton has an awesome track just off the freeway at Mt.Barker, 1/10 1/8 nitro and a good size 1/5 line up aswell...I heard hobby habbit racing has a new large indoor on/off road complex Daws Rd Adel.

hey sorry I forgot about this thread.Nice to see a south aussie! Your DF-02 project sounds interesting, We'll have to go for a bash sometime.Where abouts are you? I'm at Highbury (North East).I've been down to hobby habit a few times, I used to race a Himoto buggy in beginner class. But then i got a T4, difference is night and day. That is in parts now as well though.

I'm currently saving up for a E-firestorm Flux and a Spektrum DX3R, hoping to have them by christmas this year.

What RC's do you have apart from the DF-02? We should go for bash once i get my firestorm flux.

EDIT: BTW it's nice to see a south aussie into electric offroad, everyone i talk to on forums that are from SA are into the nitro down at morphettvale.

Crikey..Just googled E-firestorm and layed my eyes on a BEAST !
Unfortunately my recent experience of brushless was kindly lent to me on a visit to Mildura (in my df-02) It handled it ok with me not trying to spew out rooster tails LOL. And that settled it for me, brushless is KING. I have been hesitant to buy localy, Im about 80 km south/east from you. Is there a good online site you recomend? Does habit have any good combo deals? there online store is not in service!.
I have a Bandit that im converting to stadiumTruck, Once i get my brushless combo that could provide some good competition, The timeframe on your firestorm purchase is perfect, thats similar to my brushless combo cash timeframe. Habits tracks open to public during holidays? (i think)
Ive had a few cars, hyper 10 got traded off over the years with my better equip while i had other commitments (proud father of 3 lol) Pretty good cond frogs and the bandit survived...Got the df-02 recently and im hooked once again, intend to hopup that one fully,
Saw some footage of southern districts on u-tube, a rough track they use there!! Tempted to go with the firestorm..WOW.. Where you shop bro?
Cheers

Yeah, The firestorm flux is a pretty sweet truck!
Mildura is a great place for ep offroad, I've been to Mildura but at the time I didn't even relise there was a track there! probably because I wasn't into this sweet hobby at the time lol.

I found a WICKED online shop that is located in NSW, so postage is cheap.I've only recently discovered it, but it has restored my faith in the rc hobby (LHS's are too expensive I reckon). It is called RCHobbies.http://www.rchobbies.com.au/store/index.php?osCsid=59cf367f6cb02a3eed30d59c600b8184

So you are going to convert your bandit to a rustler or a custom stadium truck?I'm glad that we getting stuff at the same time.I have a T4RS that needs a few parts.I COULD fix it up, but then that's around $100 less spending money on my Firestorm Flux.Yes hobby habit is open during holidays, I have a membership card with them (you need to buy a car from them to get this though:d ) and part of being a member is they send mail you the racing calendar and track operating hours.

How old are your sons?As I'm only 14 myself.Yea the Morphettvale track looks pretty bumpy. The firestorm would be a very good choice because the reviews from other people say that the truck is pretty much industructable apart from the shocks and that the firestorm flux version comes with a brushless system already, it has an all metal tranny, and on RCHobbies you can get one for $439!! :toocool:

RCHobbies is perfect (as is the Firestorm) choice m8.
Yeah Habit just dont seem to have any bargains whenever i go there, reckon thats why they dont bother with there website they would have to show prices LOL. Very helpfull bunch of good people though.
Definately gonna be more than a Rustler, still snooping around Ulti.Traxxas for ideas. Got a fighter buggy rx for my eldest lad (10) and he pulls of some awesome x-games style stunts :) with it.
So if ya eva see a Revo lookin thing with a bandit body and a gravelhound flyin round the Habit track, That'll be us LOL...
Cheers m8

and i think its a shame habit covered their offroad track, its too grippy to provide any real competition, like the 4.5/5.5 brushless and overpriced esc's can run no probs....i was kind of relying on a slippery dirt surface so a 10.5 budget esc combo and 2c lipo could keep up with good driving... and the half pipe looking berms take any braking/driving skills advantages away also... Anyway looks like the bandit is the one to bring up to racespec now considering 10.5 may not be enough, any idea on the average lap times there 4 1/10 elec 2wd and 4wd?. Cheers m8

Yea I'm really not happy with Hobby Habit. So much that I' thinking of moving interstate once I've finished high school.its a real pitty that they covered the dirt, cos thats half the fun of offroad! I have no idea what the avg. lap times would be.You could try ringing up the shop and asking though.

This is gonna be my setup, yeah racing 3200 lipo(roar approved), Ive ordered 2 from china!! US35 each 14 shipping, thats 114 oz dollars done deal, even rchobbies wants 80 bux each so its worth it... A LRP a.i. speedy 9.5 combo coz i like the idea of not having to set it all the time. Only thing is i have to go the venom 2-3 cell AC balancercharger $49 rchobbies coz of budget etc... From what i can tell that charger only gives out about 850mah.. so thats a fair charge time, probably 2-4 hours LOL Give them long life though i spose, found a df-02 front shock tower blue alloy US8 and alloy shocks US10 !!! rcmart is the place...shipping can get too much though but it was worth it for the batts :)
No luck on the lap times from habit but they allmost sold me a hyper somethin :)
cheers

nice.I HAVE to use RCHobbies cos its the cheapest online store in australia that I've found.Mum said that I can only order from an international online store once, and she doesn't like ebay.So that doesn't really leave me with many options lol.

Anyway, I don't think I will go with the e-firestorm after all, reason being that it doesnt have many aftermarket options. So my next weapon of choice might be a Traxxas Rustler XL-5 upgraded with a Mamba Max brushless system powered by Trakpower lipos from ModelFlight. The reason I'm choosing the xl-5 instead of the VXL is there has been some reliability issues with the Velineon power system. The reason I chose a rustler? it has LOADS of aftermarket support.Especially from RPM.

Might have to check this rcmart out for myself. How did they manage to go from lap times to almost selling you a hyper?!

yeah even 10.5 is good for 4wd i reckon but with my budget its a one off buy so i decided to stretch it to the 9.5 so i got the pro version speedy and would have no regrets(LRP combo deal rchobs $215) Mainly coz of the a.i. thing lol. yeah plenty of complaints about vxl about but they usually always involve 3cell lipo's....or flight batts with traxxas plugs....every speedy has its amp limit. Usually if someone invests in castle mamba they get esc/motor heatsinks fans, so people getting vxl kits are going full bore with no cooling aid, then they get bigger bats and... so i dont think its all bad for vxl, they are fast and just need cooling attention like other setups allready have i reckon. Anyway the habit track has still bitten me though:) I'll definately race there at one point, its still big enough and if anything the surface will reduce wear. And with the traxxas you get to change between buggy/truck cheaply/easily. Get the most powerfull speedy you can afford(brushless) then you can match any motor you want to it. im not gonna bother goin any lower than say 8.5 coz the payoff for high speed is acceleration and id rather have more torque than topend but thats just me. yeah and with your chassis choice go with parts avail. etc
cheers

yeah i prefer accel to top speed.Maybe I might get the VXL because I know I won't be using 3 cell.Don't need it for offroad, since the surface is always changing and traction isnt it's best. The reason I've selected the mamba max is because I can tune it by using the castle link.I won't be racing this Rusty.I have other plans for a racer.

My own bank fees and charges destroyed any international bargains i found!!!, no crap somethin like 30 bux the commonwealth want for my tt transfer..(direct deposit for rcmart)..
The order was finished at 94.13US shipped, done, there was a 10US fee if i wanted too directly deposit funds in there bank, then my bank wanted 30Aus for the same thing!!!!! In the end i was at 150-160oz bux..for 2 bats worth 80 each at rchobs!!!!!!!!! LOL, stick with rchobs dude :)
Maybe i'll have to stick to NiMh for a little longer :(
Pity my charger just died :(
Two bats leaked everywhere!! :(
Lucky im obsessed with this Hobby LOL

Hey dude wasup, that 1/18 keepin ya busy yeah.
Ive been pushing my Bandit to its limits lately, even ripping front tyres off at the pins :) thats the grip factor i got goin lol. Ive had to settle for standard 2wd buggy tyres. got more push but slightly better entry to corners... getting there lol
Still dont have brushless yet coz im goin through spares like crazy, theres a right turn if ya take it to early it likes to strip servos :(. I think the servo saver on the bandit is a little stiff coz it dont save da servo LOL. That and the fact it came with nylon wheelnuts!?! is my only gripe with this awesome car.
This dude came up and was pretty impressed with Bandit, ends up he got 3 nitros at home in storage and didnt like the hassles of em anyway, so hes looking at a brushless bandit and some racing in future (he already runs v6 commy at speedway). To cut a long story short there could be a new club starting in Murray Bridge Area next year :).. Its only at idea level still but i"ll keep ya posted...

Oh that sounds sweet, but Mum is already complaining about how far away Hobby Habit's track is from my house :d .

This is probably a little advanced for a kid my age, but I have done some research into moving to states :toocool: .Why? Cos I can enjoy my one hobby in life, RC :) .
