Ok lm looking at converting my Dt02 to a truggy style because its just not getting to the groomed tracks any more and l still love using it for a bash!!!
Any ideas etc welcome :-)

Yeah, I don't know when those became 'truggies'; 20 years ago they were just called truck conversions. They started with the RC10 around 1988, but by 1990 purpose-built trucks like the Losi JR-XT and Traxxas Eagle were coming out.

They are pretty simple to pull off; get some 2.2" truck wheels, tires, and body mounts. Because it's a buggy, you'll want to find some wheels with a lot of offset, to widen the track as much as possible.

Check out some back issues of RC Car Action for some cool conversion articles. They still have scans of the original magazines on the website.

Typical example of an RC10 truck conversion.

Have you seen this, Tamiya's way of doing a Truck version of the DT02 chassis.

Ok l got into it a bit now and need longer wheel axles too fit up truck wheels with as much off set as l can get (3Dsteve :).)
Also found all the body mounting options from the Nissan Truck (laferlita2007).
Now all l need to do is find the parts for a fair price and order them in :) (hopefully from a localish australian supplier but lm doubting it as usually lve found outta asia with postage is still cheaper than here * (http://www.ultimaterc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1923)* (http://www.ultimaterc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1923)* (http://www.ultimaterc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1923)!!!)
Havent decided on body yet as l got free chinese hsv ute l can use from a friend :)

Not sure what options would fit, but look at getting some kind of hub carriers that will let you run 12mm hex wheels up front. Maybe something from a Traxxas Rustler/Stampede.

Look into Tamiya's Stadium Blitzer series wheels, those Truck wheels are 2.2" & you don't need 12mm hex's for the front.

use stadium blitzer wheels, and front axles. or you could use the street rover parts thats a dt02 truggy straight from tamiya!

All great tamiya minds at work :-) , got blitzer wheels all round now just waiting on front axles and rear tyres plus the 58511 body mounts .
Couldn't use the ute body l had its to big ....... so not sure what body to run.....

Do like the old-timey truck conversions and use a regular scale body, then just trim out the fender openings and mount it as low as you can.

The Toyota pre-runner pickup body was originally on the Toyota Hilux racing monster truck around 1991.

That looks cool :) and extra street cred with the wheelie bar!!!
lm thinking of taking the cutters to the cheapo body l got but might have to find some adapters first and get a little wider in its foot print ?!

7.06.12, 10:54 am
The wheelie bar is not original equipment lol

Didn't think it was :-) just fukcen cool though!
Id rip it off if l had one.

Sorry for delay got it all sorted for first run at the BMX track soon if weather stays good. Back body mount from nissan truck is alittle flimsy notsure if l need something better yet will wait and see, front mount is a proto type and lm still waiting on nissan front mounts.
It definately bashs around the front yard much better already :)
Included one pic of body sitting on my Df03 and oh lm gunna get Df03ra now lol

Looking good.

Maybe some 2.2" ProLine tires (the standard rear tires don't last long & bad traction), for the rear one day?

I don't know if it's just the photo, but the body looks a tad low.

Plenty of Parts & Options for them, Link: http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?LH_PrefLoc=2&_trkparms=65%253A16%257C66%253A2%257C39%253A1&rt=nc&_nkw=Tamiya+DT02&_dmpt=AU_Toys_Hobbies_Radio_Controlled_Vehicles&_sc=1&_sticky=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_sop=12&_sc=1
