I know this is probably general, everyday, run of the mill stuff for most of you guys... But while out bashing around today, and landing my 2wd slash on it's lid, I noticed a wobbly rear wheel. I've only had this thing about a week. it's a 2wd brushed version.

I've watched a ton of video's and read a ton of posts about keeping up with the maintenance, and I'm not in any way complaining so don't take this post as such. Simply sharing my experiences as a noob lol. So anyway I've been running in the snow a little, there is a 90º turn on the road by my house (very little traffic here) and my yard slopes down to make a nice little bank to use as a sidehill and jump. So I've been running about a week, ran about 15 packs through it, mostly playing on the road and jumping up and down this little hill. and I've taken the wheels off, taken all the pins out of the a-arms, as well as taken out the bearings twice and taken off the blue "seal" like Jang shows in his video to clean the bearings.

And today, as my slash is laying on it's lid and I'm walking up to it, I tap the throttle and notice the right rear is wobbling pretty hard. so I take a closer look to find the inside bearing is shot. I was surprised but not... I mean I knew stuff like this would go, I guess I just expected it to last longer. Maybe I didn't get this one cleaned or lubed right when I put it back in, I dunno. So I sat down today, stripped it down and relubed all the remaining bearings. The rest of them don't look too bad.

I'm probably going to stop by the local hobby shop tomorrow and see how much some replacements cost, but just so I know what to look for. Are there certain bearings that are worth a couple extra bucks that will take more abuse? or just buy stock/generic bearings and keep some extra's handy to swap out as they go bad?

PS. I actually had fun working on it today, it's simple enough to work on that it's actually kinda relaxing as I just took my time and cleaned / lubed everything again. I even took the shocks & springs off today just to familiarize myself with how they are removed.

I'm officially addicted to the 2wd slash. I'm really impressed with how well it does in the snow after some suspension tuning, and it still has stock tires (which everyone seems to think they suck!) So I am really looking forward to when I take the $$$ to upgrade to a set of better tires. Sorry for the long post, but it's New Years Day, I'm at home bored cuz my Slash is broke down....

There are bearings that are cheaper than what the lhs probably will sell you. Its everywhere on the forum, but I don't know what size the slash uses. But there are complete sets in ebay, or you can pay per bearing from Acer Bearings, Boca Bearings, and more.
Exceed: Infinitive/dynamite, Maxstone 10
Tamiya: Half of an M01, TA03R
Yokomo: YR4 Type J

Yeah I was looking on eBay, looked like good prices, but I didn't want to have to wait out the shipping time lol. Maybe if I can find like a 2 pack at the LHS then I'll order a pack of 10 on eBay for spares. I was going with the "don't buy parts till they break" theory, but really wish I would have picked these up in advance lol.

Edit: Oh and I think they are 5x11x4 bearings. The ones in it have blue seals too.

5x11 will fit everything on the slash the traxxas bearings are not the best i suggest avid

Bearings are always good to have a few spares. They are one part that I just expect to fail at anytime for no apparent reason. Good thing they are only about $1-2 a piece. I suggest keeping a spare or two of the wheel bearings handy.

Glad to see you are enjoying the hobby, though.

what i would suggest is that if you want to get your truck running again right away is to go to your LHS and get the traxxas replacement bearings or what the hobby shop has and then do some search on here about the best place to get new bearings and then order a few maby even 10 all the bearings on the 2wd slash are the same 5x11. IF you are not in a hurry to get it running then just do the research and order from where you feel feel like.

If you are running in snow and water/mud then they will not last as long. if you dont run your truck in wet conditions and clean the bearing regualry then they can last for a long time.
