I used to have a slash4x4 with stampede wheels/tires, just used the same body, it just makes it look like a kinda-monster truck, hehe, wasn't bad at all.
in fact once i kill the body on my mt410 i'm going to mount up an SCT body and see how it goes.(i'm sure i'll be removing fenders) I really like the scale look of the SCT bodies.

E-Maxx bodies look good on a Slash 4x4 with 2.8" tires. It's as close as you can get to a Traxxas 1/8 MT without the money-pit repair costs that tend to come with the E-Maxx or E-Revo.

I have a Slash 4x4 Ultimate. Have any of you running the bigger tires on a Slash change out the gears or will the stock gears handle the larger tires?

The stock gears will work fine. But the issue is overheating your motor. You will need to adjust your gearing otherwise your motor can overheat.
