I had thought about the 8.4v pack, but the most mA I could find was 1500.

The only reason for going to 2.4g is that I'm upgrading my Tamiya's radio to the Fly Sky GT3B. My current GT2 will control the Smash.

Plus, my nephew doesn't really like the long antenna on the original Tx, so this will take care of that......not to mention the better range it will have.

running a stock Smash with the 900mah 7.2v , I get 30mns runtime! So I guess if the quality of the battery is the same the 1500mah will do the job even with the 380.

Also how fast would you estimate the speed of your nikko when it had the 360 stock motor? The reason for asking is because I find my buzzsaw terribly slow, on high speed I'm sure it does not go more then 5 or 6 mp/h...

You might be right about the 8.4v run-time estimation, Jean. I know that with the 7.2v 2500 NiMH pack, the Smash gets about 45 minutes of run-time. That's with the added weight of the 380, metal pinion and adjustable steering/camber turnbuckles up front. The addition of wheel bearings probably helps with the longer run-time, too.

I'd say the speed of the Nikko (completely stock w/ 9.6v NiMH) was at least twice that of the Buzzsaw. It really was pretty quick, probably only slightly slower than the stock Smash running the 7.2v NiMH pack.

Thanks for your answers,

By stock do you mean with the original 650 mah battery or the Tenergy 2000mah?
I know the buzzsaw is rated at 500ft/minute if your motor was a 360 SH and still twice faster then mine then what motor do I have...?! Looking at the 380 SH it's rated for 3 to 6V so when they mention 15220 maximum efficiency rpm for what voltage is it??

The truck was completely stock and running the 2000mAh Tenergy. But, even with the 650mAh NiCD, it was still pretty quick.....if only for about five minutes.

I'm not sure what motor is in that Buzzsaw, Jean, but my guess is it's the 360. If it's slow, then it's probably geared to go slow. Weight and tire size might also factor in. Pull the motor and see exactly what you have.

My Tacoma, in stock form w/ battery, probably weighed close to 2 - 2.5lbs. It was really light. Remember, it also had a Lexan body, which kept the weight down.

My guess is that max efficiency RPM for the 380SH is at 6V (nominal rating). Perhaps others with greater knowledge on the subject can chime in here.

If I were you, I'd pull the motor and see what you have. If it's a 360, then experiment a little..... swap the pinion gear onto a 380SH or 380 Sport Tuned and let er rip.

OK that explains a little, the buzzsaw is heavy! For gearing on the high speed gear I don't think it's gearing low as it takes a little time to get to full speed , I think the motor is definitely to weak. For a swap I sure won't go crazy and maxi would be a 380 SH. Is the Tamiya sport tuned 380 a GWS 380?

As far as I know, the GWS 380 is the same as the Graupner Speed 400, which is the same as the Mabuchi RS-380SH. All of those are 45T motors.

The Tamiya Type 380-S is 40T and the Sport Tuned is 29T. The lower the turns (T), the faster the motor.

If I use the sport tuned 380 it will soon be a RIP... To stay on a safe side I think the 380 SH would be the right choice.

I agree.....the 380 SH is probably a wise choice. Start a build thread on it and post pics/ vids of the swap.
