Hi everybody, I'm looking for an effective Motor and esc for a slash 4x4 for racing. I was strongly considering a Castle creations Sidewinder SCT with a 3800kv motor, but now I'm thinking about Novak and other brands. But I dont want Tekin, they're way too expensive.

Mamba max pro with the 3800kv for 2s or the 2400kv for 3s if u want to stay castle. Would definately recommend the mmp over the sidewinder, the mmp can handle the strain a 4x4 puts on it much better than the sidewinder.

I ran a mmp with a tekin 4600kv pro 4 motor and although expensive it was crazy fast on 2s and no heat issues. Never seen or tried it but on the budget side ive heard the tenshock/hobbywing combo is awesome for the price.

On a side note, coming from someone who raced a slash and did every possible upgrade(lcg chassis and all) if you really get into racing, youd be better off getting a race specific truck like a losi scte or the tekno truck. I had well over a grand into my slash and switched to a stock losi and was 2s a lap faster on a 45-48s lap track. The slash can be made to race and race well, but there are better and cheaper options. Plus u can still have the slash to bash and another truck just to race, something i miss having in the slash cause sometimes you just want to play lol

Hope this helps, Cody
Losi SCTE 4x4(Slash just couldnt cut it)
Losi Mini 8ight (its just so damn cute)
Losi 8ight T 2.0 E (1/8 scale POWER!!!!)
Axial SCX10(Something about Scalers...)

Castle ESC's are not very good for racing. If you get a race grade servo which pulls lots of power, chances are you will run into glitches and may have to purchase an additional external BEC. Most other brands of ESC's are rock solid to include HobbyWing XeRun.

Most racers prefer a sensored motor to get a little more throttle control which gives better traction in tight corners.

+1 to the TenShock combo here with a 4600kV motor:

If you want to save some cash and forgo the sensored setup, then this is a pretty good deal here with the 4400kV motor:

Believe it or not, you will get faster lap times with a better servo than a better motor.

A decent mid grade club level servo would be the Savox 1258TG, if you want to go high end, then check out the RadioPost servos which offer 32 bit precision and are blazing fast
