Where would i even start. A brand new slash or rustler roller or what. I wanna make a new slash but just upgrade every thing asap instead of waiting. Gimme some ideas.

first if you want to buy a boxed car, definitely go with a slash over the rustler. VXL slash is $264.99 off traxxas.com, while VXL rustler is $394.99 off traxxas. Even investing the $75-85 in the STRC LCG (if you wish to go that route) you're still cheaper than the initial rustler cost!

So with that said, my first step would be to determine what chassis you wanna run..

1. STRC LCG Conversion
or
2. Any After market chassis (Anza / Proline / Chuckworks / Integy / any other number of them out there)

The companies I listed above are just random ones I can think of off the top of my head, look each one of their chassis' up and decide which one you like and whether or not it suits your intended driving style. I'm not going to go into each one specifically because there are a thousand people out there who have review each companies chassis' in depth.

I think once you decide on a chassis conversion then you can go deeper into specifications such as arms, esc's and motors, wheels, tires, gearboxes, etc. because choosing between buying a slash out of the box will provide you with the vxl sysem, servo, and radio / receiver, which you may honestly be satisfied and not want to upgrade, or feel you do want to upgrade, which then buying a vxl slash out of the box is impractical since you will use literally nothing from it haha

there's just a lot of variables that are left unknown without having some sort of platform to start from

Gutslayer makes some good points. When you say upgrade everything what do you include in that? Does that include the shell for example?

You could take a look at my survey and see what people are suggesting and talking about upgrades wise - see http://www.ultimaterc.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=167743

Im thinking STRC lcg for sure but im not sure on the vxl. I got a fly sky radio so im just gonna use that. Im thinking if i bought a tacon and a hobbywing esc and the servo is the only thing i might leave alone. This truck will not see be seeing any water bashing so waterproof is not important.

Proline Protrac Kit is also a upgrade im considering. I have the rpm wide mod on my rustler and i love it but i like how beefy the proline stuff looks.

I like the look of the pro-line kit but it does change things and limit you to pro-line going forward due to size differences etc. and it is a little pricey in my opinion - I'd stick with a JANG wide mod myself.

the survey results seem to be pretty well approved other than the pro-line steering which has sparked some debate.

Since you have some radio stuff off the top of my head I'd actually suggest buying a roller rather than a complete car - much easier to get new via ebay in the US than over here in the UK.

My config of choice based on my research and personal preference would be:

STRC Slash 2WD LCG Conversion Kit
RPM Front Skid Plate And Bumper For Traxxas Slash (80952)
RPM Rear Bumper For The Traxxas Slash (81002)
RPM Gearbox Housing and Rear Mounts (73612)
Traxxas 4x4 Driveshaft assembly rear, heavy duty x2 (6852X) Castle HOBBYWING EZRUN WP SC8 Waterproof 120A Brushless ESC
Castle Creations Neu-Castle 1410 3800 kv motor
ST Racing Concepts Aluminum Front Bulkhead (ST2530GM)
RPM Front Shock Tower - E & N-Stampede, E-Rustler & Bandit (80852)
RPM Rear Shock Tower for Traxxas Slash 2WD/Stampede/Rustler/Bandit (80832)
RPM Front & Rear Wishbones (80242/80182)
ST Racing Concepts Aluminum Caster Blocks (ST3632)
RPM Front Bearing Carriers For The Traxxas Slash, E-Rustler, E-Stampede & Bandit (44.4%).
ANZA/ STRC Hingepins
Traxxas Big Bore shocks (hard-anodized & Teflon-coated T6 aluminum) (2662/2660).

Body shell would be something from Proline or a BAJR.

It might help. It might not

That's not a VXL Slash, just a brushed one. The Rustler is cheaper than the Slash.

I know its expensive, but I have run most of the lcg chassis's for the slash and the proline is better than the strc by far. I was pretty skeptical about its performance after reading some impressions on the web, but now that I own one I can only assume that they were blowing smoke.
The pro2 slash is far more planted than the strc or sscrc and far more durable than the strc ( I would stay away from the strc as it removes an important flex point from the plastic chassis resulting in alot of broken chassis tubs.
