There's actually also one that I no longer have the box for. I think 3 out of 5 have flown ok out of the box, only one of them perfectly without adjustment. The other two required a little bit of motor alignment (just push them in their sticky gum bed) and steering trim, and that was it.
I took one out to the local schoolyard during a steady breeze, probably 2-3mph with gusts around 5mph, and with my lower wings trimmed just inside where the struts used to be, I was able to control it! It was quite an exciting fight/flight! A lot of time was spent either full throttle to turn into the wind, or zero throttle to come back down from the ridiculous altitude it'd reach in zero time flat. Then, at Rimmy's suggestion, I took the lower wings off completely. In this configuration, it flew like a regular plane, versus the powered hang glider style it normally emulates. Ridiculously fast. I'd estimate it was doing over 10mph against the wind, and 20 running with it. A bit too fast for a non-acrobatic plane with a ~8" wingspan, if ya ask me. Oh, and I'm running with my battery moved forward and down. Landing/takeoff gear too (yes, it takes off quite nicely on its own!).
So, my plans are to make one into a really capable outdoor plane, heavy, minimal vertical surfaces, hopefully about the speed that it is with half-trimmed lower wings, but more maneuverability. Then I'm also going to make the slowest possible, most maneuverable possible indoor flyer, something that can be controllable in my small living room.
I've also tried removing the fuselage altogether -- saves only about 1/4th of the weight. Basically I was left with a powered wing with a tail boom attached to the bottom. It flew beautifully in a straight line, but my CG wasn't far enough below the thrust axis & center of drag and turn recovery was a problem. Anyway, much in the future with these things!
PS: Please, nobody tell me to go look on RCGroups or RCU or some other big plane site. I want to see what I can come up with on my own before being polluted with the pros' ideas
