The Big Rant
What is with these people? I'm not going to call out any names, but some folks really tick me off! I know I'm supposed to keep my "Nice Guy" face on in the public, but come on, everybody has their limits. But exactly what am I talking about? Limits of what? Allow me to break it down for ya.
I'll start over on the Traxxas.com forums, in 2002 and through the first part of this year. About once a month, it would start. Either I or, more commonly, another member, would bring up the Ultimate Rustler modifications in a thread about increasing the speed & performance of a Traxxas electric. Someone who had actually applied my mods carefully to their own truck would rave about how it really did work. Someone else would follow up about they had done some Dremelling, but didn't notice any difference. Yet a third would casually mention that he had done some rather unscrupulous "Jangification" and snapped a chassis after simply driving around the backlot and jumping a 7' ramp and landing in a bed of broken up concrete. (Oh yeah, that's really my fault.) Then came one of the smartaleks. "Anybody who Dremels the crap out of their chassis just 'cuz JANG did is a dumb___." One of their buddies would jump in, "The speed gain from the tiny weight savings would be completely ruined by the spaghetti-like flexibility of what's left of the truck, and it'd probably shatter into bits on the first lap." Another, "JANG probably does well in races 'cuz he can drive a little bit and everybody he's racing against sucks... 'cuz it's not the truck." Oh really? I'd like to see these folks come out to my track and tell all of the other racers that they "suck." No, seriously, I'd pay to see that, or at least the aftermath thereof! As for my Rustler, first I find it questionable to call shaving off almost 1/2 lb. (from a 4lb truck) a trivial matter. And then there's the little-known fact that Dremelling is not all that's been done to that truck in the past 4 years. Oh, and in those 4 years, not one of my Dremelled parts has failed. Not one. Let's move right along though!
I'd see a good question ripe for the answering, and post a detailed response with a couple of links. Next message that comes through, "JANG ur a rc GOD!" Oh brother, here goes nothing; bring on the Hater Patrol. "Oh I get so sick of these stupid people all stuck up JANG's butt." "Anybody who worships another human being needs to be comitted." I'd use different phraseology, myself. I say he who takes literally and seriously a post calling someone "a rc GOD" is himself the one in need of immediate psychiatric intervention! I bet if the tables were turned the reaction would not be so hostile. Wouldn't that be curious to see. Now, I know somebody reading this is going to say, "But I thought all of the crap on the Traxxas forums was solved and behind you now?" Well, things on that site have cooled down, yes, but there remain out there on the World Wild Web legions of haters with nothing better to do in life than to claw at the pants legs of folks who have, in one way or another, risen up as a result of their hard work. Let's keep moving.
Welcome to the Ultimate R/C Forums. New Topic. "JANG what body did you use on the Phase 4 Spyder?" Ya just couldn't go to the Spyder page, click Phase 4, and read it for yourself, right? "JANG how did you put CVAs on the Mad Jedi?" I wonder if the Mad Jedi page might have the answer? Oh, and then there's "JANG what motor are you using on XXX-Tyranus?" Sorry, not disclosed yet. One hour later, "Well I can at least see a couple of motors that it's not." Alright, that's fine. Think all you want, I'm not revealing the truth 'till I'm ready. When I'm ready, I'll put it up on the project page. Thank you. Next day, by PM, "I think I know what motor it is, but I know you don't want me to talk about it so I won't say anything." Attention K-Mart shoppers, JANG is going to explode now.
Next thread. "SO i wuz gonna takeing my motar
ou tof tha truk 2 kleen it but it wuz reely hot so wat kan i do 2 mak
it coldier?" Say again? No, wait, I didn't mean that seriously. Please,
don't say it again, whatever you said. There's a relatively new section
at the bottom of the forum
rules & guidelines that covers this one pretty well. "JANG
U R SO MEAN

ENYBODY KNOES WAT IM SAYING Y DO YOU HAVE TO MAEK ME LUK BAD IM GONNA
DESTROY YOURE SIGHT WIT A VIRIS

."
Greeeaaat.
Next?
This wasn't public knowledge until now, but on the forums, there's a restricted area called the "Mod Lounge" where the moderators & admins discuss their duties. There's a sticky topic that I created in there called "The Ritalin Brigade." This is a list of hyperactive users who, as the title suggests, have personalities that would lead to the prescription of methylphenidate, commonly known as "Ritalin." About once a week, a new name is added to the list. About once a week, a name is removed from the list (along with the user's account). The pattern is predictable. An enthusiastic "Hi I'm new great site oh wow I'm such an enthusiastic newcomer to the R/C world and I'm going to have a great time here" post. A string of 10-20 responses to random threads, with replies like "cool" and "hahaha." A gentle "calm down" request from another user. A smart response. A heated exchange. A closed thread. A PM from a moderator. A promise to act better. A lull. A recurrence. A final warning. An obscene response. A ban. 90% of the Ritalin Brigade members of history have turned out to be 13 or 14 years old. They probably think they act mature for their age, too. Tragic.
Some folks think it must be great to be "JANG." Well, I'm here to tell ya, a great deal of the time, it's not! I work my butt off only to have to put up with THIS crap?! Oh, and don't even LET me get started about...
