How to build a J-SPEC car

Introducing: J-SPEC

J-SPEC is an electric off-road R/C racing class that combines low cost and high durability with a refreshing touch of realism to bring back a level of good, clean fun that the hobby has not seen in years.

J-SPEC racing vehicles are designed to mimic the form and function of the increasingly popular rally cars that compete in such high-profile venues as the World Rally Championship. J-SPEC cars run on existing offroad tracks with great pleasure and can easily be built for under $300, ready to run including radio, motor, electronic speed control (ESC), charger, and four battery packs!

Specifications

Chassis: Any 2WD 1/10th scale electric stadium truck.
Recommended: Inexpensive Traxxas Rustler or Stampede RTR (under $150 new, assembled, with radio!), Duratrax Evader, or old model such as Losi JRXT or Associated RC10T.
Body: Any 280mm-300mm wheelbase, 215mm+ width street car design. Must be recognizable as a street-driven passenger car, not a truck, buggy, or special racing design. Rally car appearance encouraged. HPI Super Nitro Lancer Evolution VI WRC and HPI Super Nitro Subaru Impreza WRC 300mm bodies are excellent choices.
Motor: Traxxas "Stinger" 20-turn factory-sealed can motor (included w/ Rustler, Stampede & Bandit RTR sets). No tampering permitted.
Tires: Similar tread patterns for front & rear pairs strongly encouraged for realism. Ribbed front tires (other than than the original set that came with your truck) not allowed.
Wheels: 2.2" diameter standard 1/10th scale stadium truck wheels.
Battery: Unmatched, factory sealed 1500mah sport pack in "shotgun" configuration (two rows of 3 cells each). (For example, DuraTrax Pirhanna, Trinity Amp Max, Dynamite Dyna-Sport, etc.)
Speed
controller:
Any MSC or ESC is allowed. Use of reverse not allowed during race.
Recommended: Duratrax Spike or other ESC retailing for under $50.
Gearing: No limit.
Weapons: Offensive/defensive weapons allowed (for flare and fun), within the following guidelines: Nothing sharp, no deployables (nothing that physically detaches from the vehicle), no pyrotechnics, no EMF devices, no liquid sprays or spills, no compressed air or compressed fluid canisters. Track officials have the final word on what is allowed and what is not.
Other: Wide front bumper strongly encouraged for the sake of durability (for Traxxas-based J-Spec vehicles, use RPM wide bumper.)
